Structural steel for Swedish construction since 1991.

We cover the whole chain — engineering, fabrication, delivery, assembly and CE marking — for main contractors on new build, conversion and repair. Frames, stairs, railings, canopies and floor steelwork, with our own project management and assembly crews.

A strong footing in Stockholm–Mälardalen — projects across all of Sweden.

Our history

From six smiths in Huddinge in 1991 to a certified manufacturer of complete steel structures. Eight years that changed what we could take on:

  1. Six smiths in Huddinge

AB Smederna started in the spring of that year in Huddinge with six smiths and one member of office staff. Our first job was railings for Söderberga Gård.

  2. A trade school of our own

The three-year skills programme “Bästa Smederna” started, followed by TR-stål N and K certification and crane operator training. Our fifteen smiths worked at Sollentuna Centrum and at AstraZeneca in Södertälje, among other places.

  3. The control tower at Arlanda

An eventful year. The biggest change was the autumn move from our old premises in Huddinge to newly built, modern ones in Tumba. The workforce grew by around ten people. One of the most unusual jobs of the year was the new air traffic control tower at Arlanda, where our smiths worked 85 metres up.

  4. Mechanised beam welding

Smederna invests in a new welding line for mechanised beam welding. Turnover rose by a full 14 % to SEK 138 million.

  5. CE marking in every execution class

We change our name from Smederna i Huddinge AB to Smederna Sverige AB. We are certified to EN 1090-1 and EN 1090-2 for EXC 1, 2, 3 and 4, and to EN ISO 3834-2, 3 and 4. The certification lets us CE-mark our own products.

  6. Tekla BIM Awards

Smederna wins a Tekla BIM Award for the modelling of the box girder for Odenplan station.

  7. Environmentally certified

We are now certified to the environmental management standard ISO 14001. We renovate our staff areas and offices on Skyttbrinksvägen 12.

  8. New owners, new direction

In the autumn of 2024 new owners took over the company and are now driving its development through substantial investment in processes and people. The vision focuses on smart use of resources, continuous improvement and effective collaboration, in order to deliver complete steel structure solutions — from the first sketch to the finished installation.

  1. AB Smederna started in the spring of that year in Huddinge with six smiths and one member of office staff. Our first job was railings for Söderberga Gård.

  2. During the autumn we drew up the outline for a three-year skills development programme, which began in the spring of 1996.

  3. The three-year skills programme “Bästa Smederna” started, followed by TR-stål N and K certification and crane operator training. Our fifteen smiths worked at Sollentuna Centrum and at AstraZeneca in Södertälje, among other places.

  4. During the autumn we laid the foundation for the way our teams work today — a close-knit, highly skilled unit. That year our twenty smiths worked at the Alvik interchange and rebuilt the tram depots.

  5. We worked at the DN building among other places, and took on one more member of office staff and seven new colleagues in production.

  6. We expanded our teams with a seven-person service department focused on smaller, fast-turnaround work. We were now six teams, one of them the service department, with around thirty smiths in production. Alongside the everyday work we built the only diffusers of their kind in Sweden, for Electrolux.

  7. An eventful year. The biggest change was the autumn move from our old premises in Huddinge to newly built, modern ones in Tumba. The workforce grew by around ten people. One of the most unusual jobs of the year was the new air traffic control tower at Arlanda, where our smiths worked 85 metres up.

  8. Projects completed during the year included Kv Bommen and Berzelii Park.

  9. Projects during the year included Astra B212, at 800–900 tonnes of steel.

  10. The big event of the year was of course the workshop extension.

  11. A weak year for Smederna. The market wavered.

  12. Annual turnover rose by 7 million from 2004, reaching 68 million.

  13. Turnover rose by a further 7 million during 2006.

  14. Smederna expands, and we decided to increase our headcount.

  15. Smederna invests in a new welding line for mechanised beam welding. Turnover rose by a full 14 % to SEK 138 million.

  16. Smederna is named one of Sweden’s Gasell companies for 2009. Our turnover was 91 million.

  17. One of the major projects is Kv Fräsaren 10 in Solna.

  18. Smederna invests in a new Kaltenbach sawing and drilling line.

  20. The largest investment of 2013 was the extension of the production areas — we almost doubled the production floor.

  21. Smederna wins a Tekla BIM Award for the modelling of the box girder for Odenplan station.

  22. Projects this year included crash barriers, stairs and signage for Mall of Scandinavia.

  23. Smederna turns 25.

  24. We are now certified to the environmental management standard ISO 14001. We renovate our staff areas and offices on Skyttbrinksvägen 12.

  25. Storskogen 3 Invest acquires the majority of the shares in Smederna.

  26. In the autumn of 2024 new owners took over the company and are now driving its development through substantial investment in processes and people. The vision focuses on smart use of resources, continuous improvement and effective collaboration, in order to deliver complete steel structure solutions — from the first sketch to the finished installation.
